Design and technology rejuvenation - The HAMANN tuning program for the new BMW 6-series

When it comes to exclusively refining BMWs, HAMANN-Motorsport is one of the first addresses. Again, the Laupheim-based company gives proof to this by introducing its latest refinements for the new BMW 6-series. By developing an entire tuning program not only for the coupe, but also the convertible, HAMANN-Motorsport renders an additional sportive and individual touch to the facelift already applied by BMW.

Already the design elements create this impression and increase the aerodynamics as well. The front- and rear spoiler reduce the buoyant forces of the HAMANN 6-series which has a significant effect on the car’s handling and agility. This is also achieved with an additional pair of side skirts which significantly calms the air flow between both axles. The roof- and rear spoiler also ensure the necessary surface pressure on the asphalt.

Mainly on country roads with winding sections, the HAMANN-aerodynamic package unfolds its strengths and generates pure enjoyment of driving.

At HAMANN-Motorsport, the individual wishes of our customers are also top of the list. This has been taken into account when designing the tuning package for the BMW 6-series. Due to the large interest in different optical programs, our designers developed another aerodynamics package called EDITION RACE. This turns the BMW in an impressive sports car, as it consequently emphasizes the broadening components. New front wings, 4-part wing broadenings in the back and enormous side skirts transform the BMW 6-series into an automobile which looks like a race car from the German Touring Car Masters or other touring car championships.

But there is even more to the HAMANN sport tuning elements under the bonnet. When developing the 6-series program, our technicians rather concentrated on evolution instead of revolution. Basically, the sport limousine has a good motorisation, therefore we put a special focus on the performance enhancement for the 630i, 650i and the diesel 635d. Adapting the motor management with up to 21 hp more and the powerful torque increase can be felt immediately when accelerating.

Moreover, HAMANN customers can look forward to the Vmax abolition. This enables the 650i to boost the maximum speed from 250 to 270 km/h.

The HAMANN sport exhaust system renders an earthy and impressive sound. The stainless steel muffler with its four round tail pipes can be optically perked up with metal catalysts, sport fan manifolds and a middle pipe set.

The rim program is also impressive in terms of dimension and diversity. No matter if you are looking for something sporty, elegant or noble – HAMANN offers varying wheel-designs and sizes. The designation HM EVO reveals a one-piece wheel with 20 inches. Its modern style is underlined with its black-lacquered varnish, diamondgrinded hub star and a discreet recess. Five extended and vaulted triple spokes display the optical and technical finesse. The recommended front wheel-tire combination is 8,5Jx20 inches with tires measuring 245/35ZR20 and 10,5Jx20 inches with 285/30ZR20 tires in the back.

One of the technical highlights of the offered tuning program is the 21-inch model called HM EVO “FORGED“. Manufactured in forge technology, it is extremely light and improves the handling, acceleration and braking characteristics by its reduced unsuspended masses. The front wheel-tire combination is offered in 9,0Jx21 inches with tires measuring 255/30ZR21 and 10,5Jx21 inches with tires measuring 295/25ZR21 in the back. Prices starting at 7,620 Euros.

HAMANN recommends high performance tires type S1 EVO from its technology partner HANKOOK.

The extended product program of HAMMAN´s sport accessories includes progressively coiled chassis springs for lowering the chassis, a height adjustable coilovers and a sport braking system. HAMANN tunes the interior with a 3-spoke sport steering wheel with an air-bag, a black instrumental dial with a scale up to 300 km/h as well as matching pedals, leg rests and hand brake handles made of aluminum.

Being the only (european) compact car with rear wheel drive, the BMW 1 Serie has a exceptional position within this car segment. And as coupé version this bavarian “corner eater” is the real kicker. KW automotive now offers ist well known coilover suspensions for this attractive two-door car to provide it with an even better handling quality. The KW coilovers are available as variant V1 in versions „basic“ and stainless steel “inox-line” technology. Variants V2 and V3 are available in „inox-line“ technology exclusively.

The adjustment range of all three variants is 30-55 mm at the front axle and 25-55 mm at the rear axle.

KW coilover suspensions – 3 damping variants for every type of driver

Coilover suspension V1 with preset damper setting permits customised lowering of the suspension and creates an optimised balance of sportiness, comfort and safety. Damping variant V2 is the ideal system for sporty drivers, who also wish to make modifications in the set-up to achieve a more customised lowering of the suspension. Thanks to the adjustable rebound damping, it is possible to adapt the driving comfort to suit the driver’s personal taste.

With its separately adjustable pressure and rebound damping functions, coilover suspension V3 permits an even higher degree of customisation to the suspension and provides the perfect solution for those truly technically demanding drivers.

A unique vehicle presentation on Red Square in Moscow (Russia) on 8 July 2008 marked the start for the BMW Group of the countdown for the European market launch of the new BMW 7 Series in the autumn of this year. With the motto “Never stand still”, the world’s most successful provider of premium segment automobiles had an hourglass almost twelve meters high built against the historic backdrop of St Basil’s Cathedral and the Kremlin. With the largest hourglass in the world, BMW impressively presented its new flagship to around 400 international guests and Moscow citizens.

Success is the driving force

The hourglass on Red Square has been attracting attention since 6 July 2008. In the upper half of the acrylic glass and steel structure stands the new BMW 7 Series - initially hidden by more than 180,000 silvery, glittering balls. These gradually dropped into the lower half, finally revealing the new BMW 7 Series completely as the high spot of the event on Tuesday evening. “The new generation of the BMW 7 Series is continuing the success story that started over 30 years ago”, said Jan-Christiaan Koenders, Head of Brand Communications BMW and Group Marketing Services. “The promise that we will keep improving on our own achievements is intrinsic to our brand. The BMW 7 Series exemplifies this particular concept”, says Koenders as an explanation of the idea behind the event motto “Never stand still”.

Taking what has been achieved as the starting point for new outstanding achievements - this concept is also the motivation for the international artists who appeared at the vehicle presentation.

These included the ballet duo Mark Peretokin and Ilze Liepa from the famous Bolshoi Theatre, the renowned conductor and orchestra and shooting star Adele. These artists use the fact that they are amongst the best in their field today as a motivation to continue to develop all the time.

A dynamic capital

“Moscow is developing at an extraordinary pace. The capital city and Russia in general are also particularly important for the BMW Group”, says Christian Kremer, Managing Director of BMW Group Russia. “The Russian market plays an increasingly important role for us. Today’s presentation reflects the confidence that the BMW Group has in this country’s potential.”

The car manufacturer has been represented in the world’s largest country, in terms of area, since 1992, and has had its own sales company here since 1999. By the end of 2008, the dealership network will have grown to 63 branches in 47 cities. This means that the BMW Group will be represented in all the major Russian cities. The country’s economic growth is also reflected in rising sales figures for BMW Group. “Our sales of BMW and MINI vehicles have risen by 33.4 percent in the first six months in comparison with last year. It is our aim to awaken even more enthusiasm for all the BMW Group brands in Russia. Exclusive vehicle presentations, such as the showing of the new BMW 7 Series in Moscow, are one key way of doing this”, continued Kremer.
